Abbey Action Group Respond to ITLA Request
Residents on the Abbey Estate have received letters from Flagship over the weekend regarding the recently set up Independent Tenants and Landlords Association.
This forum is run by the Citizens Advice for Diss and Thetford but financed by Flagship Housing Association.
Several householders have contacted the AAG and asked us how to best respond. Some have found the letter to be threatening in terms of tone.
In that light we offer the following statement:
Firstly, no resident - owner-occupier, Flagship or private tenant is required to respond to these letters, nor are you required to attend one-to-one meetings.
We advise everyone to decline the offer of a one-to-one meeting and instead reply as follows:
'Thank you for your invitation to another meeting. I do not wish to attend and instead ask you to organise a meeting with all my neighbours so we can be satisfied we are all getting the same information. I am sure you will find this a less time consuming and more efficient way to engage.'
If residents want to attend a one-to-one meeting we strongly advise that you have a witness present. Members of the AAG will be happy to attend and support you - please let us know if this is something we can help with.
We would also recommend you insist on recording any discussions you have with either the ITLA or Flagship. If they refuse to accept the pre-condition, then refuse to proceed with the meeting.
